What is the all time most cheeziest movie you have ever seen?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

Doesnt necessarily have to be one you dislike. For example, mine is this kunf fu parody called Kung-Pow. It was so cheezy and corney it was hilarious.|||The Horrors of Spider Island. Saw it on Mystery Science Theater.|||PUMPKIN|||Ok here it is. Killer Clowns from Outer Space. If you ever get a chance, watch it and then curse yourself for watching such a ridiculously horrible show. It was awesome when I was like 9 and I saw it recently and I wanted to punch myself in the face.|||Any dumb and dumber movies.|||I would have to say Soul Plane. That was the worst cheeziest movie ever.

…looking for a piece of music in a Jackie Chan movie!!!?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

…as most old school martial arts / chop socky film fan well know, the background music of many of the classic martial arts films from the 70%26#039;s %26amp; early 80%26#039;s, is borrowed from other films (especially American films), or synthesizer instrumentals. I am looking for the title of a piece of music from Jackie Chan%26#039;s classic film, %26quot;Snake in the Eagle%26#039;s Shadow%26quot;. Remember the scene where the old master, whom Jackie%26#039;s character was kind to, left him a book with some martial arts teachings? Then he goes out to a stone court area, in the back of his house, and finds the foot steps for a kung fu routine, marked off in chalk? And as Jackie%26#039;s character attempts to practice the moves in the book and the chalk markings, the background music is a piece of synthesizer music written by the Euro-synthesizer rock group Tangerine Dream, which I had heard before…..but to this day, cannot remember the title. Rather than drastically buying the entire TD library, perhaps someone out there can help!!!!!!|||I think this might be helpful.

Youtube has quite a few Tangerine Dream videos. You can browse through them and maybe find the one you%26#039;re looking for.

I remember that film (saw it long ago though), but I was convinced Space did the main theme. I included a link to that video too just in case.

By the way, you%26#039;re one of my new favorite people on Y!A because you were so excited about Monster Squad being availble on DVD in October. My city does midnight showing of older non mainstream/cult films and the showing for Monster Squad was the only sell-out ever.

What Chinese movie is this???

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

It%26#039;s about:

A guy and a girl hang around and stuff.Well, they needed money and the guy knows kung fu.They heard that there was this illegal street fight thing and the winner get $3000 (in chinese money) per match. The girl convinced the guy to join because she wants to use the money for herself. The guy keeps on winning and winning. Well, long story short, there%26#039;s this hobo that is a kung fu master and he trains the guy to win in the next BIG match. He does. In the end, the bosses who places bets, tell the guy that he has to lose the next match or they%26#039;ll kill the girl. He loses on purpose and the girl is spared(she betrayed guy was on their side anyway). The guy was uneducated- all he could do well was fight. He ended up in the hospital and the girl killed herself. The guy thought that the bosses who ran the illegal fights killed her. He got hella mad and killed all of them (but it wasn%26#039;t them. She committed suicide) And then he was going to kill 1 more when a cop shot him in the head.|||Fatal Contact?

Martial artist who punches metal to harden fists?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

A while back I saw on TV a Kung Fu master who punches against hard steel to toughen up his knuckles. When he first started out, he used to just tap his knuckles very LIGHTLY, a thousand times a day. Then, gradually over the years, he started hitting just a little harder, until now his knuckles are conditioned so that he can pretty much bang them against steel and now it will not hurt. He also has to be careful when punching someone so it will not kill them.

I%26#039;ve also heard someone say that he was hired to help take on gang member and arrest them. (Not sure how true this is, I only heard about it from someone).

Note: The guy I am talking of was on a talk show once, he DID NOT come from the movie %26quot;Silk And Iron%26quot; (think that is the name of it).

If anyone knows his name or has any info. about him, please share. Thanks. :)|||His name is actually Qingfu Pan, he is also known as Grandmaster Pan. He does play the role of himself in the movie %26quot;Iron and Silk%26quot;. In the documentary you are speaking of, they mention how he single handedly defeated 23 members of the infamous Triad Gang. I remember watching this documentary years ago.

Does the US have a monopoly on The media industries?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

It seems the US sends so much media overseas, but hardly receives any at all. for example. You can look at European ratings here:

http://www.allofmp3.com/ratings/charts.s…

Most of the Arists on that page are american. AND most of the ones who arent have American Labels.

also.. go here Http://www.amazon.de

Search for an american movie. Ill bet youll find a german version of it. When was the last time you saw a English Dubbed German film?

Now obviously we do get some stuff from the overseas. We get plenty of anime and kung fu flicks from japan, the occasional Comedy or documentary from england, and of course video games, but we send out soooo much more.|||America does not have a monopoly of all media. India and Russia produce as many or more films than the US. However, they do produce the majority of English language film %26amp; TV. (Yes, a lot is produced IN Australia, Canada and Britain, but they are produced BY americans.

The reasons for this are mostly economic. America bought most of the distribution companies throughout the world and pushed their own product. So the industry withered, particularly in Britain and Australia. The situation is better now because of the investment of governments in the industry.

In TV, the US program makers manage to get most of their costs back from domestic sales. This means they are able to sell product overseas for a fraction of the cost. In Australia, for example, overseas sales will not make up a large proportion of the income (except for the soaps like Neighbours and Home and Away. A studio will be able to buy very slick programs from the US for less than 10% of the cost of making their own (even though the home made product usually rates better).

The US also applies government pressure on other countries to benefit the studios. Again in Aust, they tried to get quotas for home made product dropped in the %26#039;free trade%26#039; agreement because it was protection, even though the americans subsidise and dump their product here. They also got Aust to change their copyright laws to advantage Disney.|||Media and entertainment is one of the few things we export more than import. But remember, a lot of %26quot;US%26quot; movies are made oversees. For example, most of the original star wars movies were shot in oversees locations or in Elstry studios in England.

Also, the US tends to do remakes of foreign films and TV shows (i.e. The Office). The originals we do get are the best of the best (Amelie, Spirited Away, etc).|||China probably produces more American-made movies than American%26#039;s do.

Just like Iran and North Korea are leading producers of $20 bills….

Who should play Bruce Lee's role?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

HONG KONG - Bruce Lee’s classic 1973 film, “Enter the Dragon,” will be remade by Warner Bros.

The remake, to be titled “Awaken the Dragon,” will be written and directed by Kurt Sutter, producer of “The Shield” TV series. It will be released by Warner Independent Pictures.

In an e-mail Thursday to The Associated Press, Warner Bros. publicist Laura Kim said the movie will tell the story of an FBI agent who investigates a Shaolin monk and underground kung fu fight clubs.|||Use special effects to make Tony Jaa look Chinese.|||jet li|||jet lei|||No one can fill Bruce Lee%26#039;s shoes. There%26#039;s no reason for a remake, and it will at best turn out to be a pale imitation of the original, dependent upon flashy fx and explosions to make up for its lack of quality.|||whoopi goldberg!|||Bobby Lee|||Oh no, there goes the classic. I don%26#039;t understand the remake, but oh well. Bruce Lee is just so perfect in Enter The Dragon. I can%26#039;t really picture anyone that is suitable to play that role. I just hope they don%26#039;t mess it up with the remake.|||Jet Li is only 5%26#039;4 bruce was 5%26#039;7 which is not a big deal, but jet will really have to work out to match bruce lees physique. It will be hard for anyone to obtain bruce lees incredibly ripped physique and also to duplicate his moves and incredible speed. Why do they insist on remaking classic movies and tv shows? they always turn out like crap!|||I%26#039;d consider watching it only if Donnie Yen gets to star.|||The actor who portrayed him in Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story.

Jason Scott Lee. Bruce%26#039;s cousin I believe? Must be re-make year? Hope they don%26#039;t butcher it.|||Very good question :)

I personally would like to see a new fresh face take on a role like that. Either a new up and coming actor who is proficient in the martial arts, or a great martial artists with acting talent who wants to break into that field.

As a former independent film actor, I know how hard it is for such people to break into the mainstream - and I think it%26#039;s really cool when you find unexpected talent in someone you%26#039;ve never really heard of before.

Of course, the studio may want to go for name recognition to attract a guaranteed audience - if so I would think Jet Li or the actor who starred in Angh Bak (I think it was called :)

9th Dan HapMoosaKi-Do

8th Dan TaeKwon-Do

7th Dan YongChul-Do|||I would think Brandon would of been a good person to play the role, but he is no one with us. So i would have to pick Jet Li, because he is a very good martial arts and i believe he can do Bruce Lee proud

Oh yea to the guy above me, Jason Scott Lee aint Bruce Lee%26#039;s cousin because i wrote a martial arts mag asking them that question and they told me they are not related

Has anyone who is not a celebrity ever made out or kissed a celebrity who is famous?

I%26#039;m am trying to find the title to this movie. It was made in the 70%26#039;s or early 80%26#039;s and it was a kung fu spoof. The main character was a black boy named Bruce Lee Roy and in the end he gets %26quot;the glow%26quot;. I think the bad guys name was Mo Fo. I haven%26#039;t seen it for a long time so the details are a little fuzzy sorry. GIRL NEEDS HELPPPp PLEAE HELPP MEEE?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

im 17. ima girl. i am interested in taking kickboxing, tae kwon do, jui jitsu, judo, tai chi, dim mak and kung fu and jeetkune do and any other sorts of martial arts lessons. only im not sure which one i should choose, because due to my busy schedule i cant do all (obviously) i was wonderfin which one is most suitable for a girl to do especiall if im only 5 feet and dont weight much (110 pounds)

i want to learn how to fight like they do in the movies but also proitect myself…im not sure which one is the best.|||kickboxing it%26#039;s a for sure, but have you thought of capoeira? It would be PERFECT for you! I love it and it has everythign incluiding form all the things you want to do|||it%26#039;s only acting in the movies not real life. try SHOTOKAN KARATE it does the business well.|||tau kwon do is good to start with then in a few years you could try kickboxing.|||I think you%26#039;d be best served by finding someone who specifically teaches self-defense. Karate will teach you how to kick someone in the head. Self-Defense will teach you why that%26#039;s one of the dumbest things you can possibly do when in a %26quot;real fight%26quot;. And formalized martial arts studies probably won%26#039;t teach you how to deal with somebody with a knife or a gun.

I learned self-defense from somebody who also teaches Brazilian JiuJitsu, but I don%26#039;t think there%26#039;s anything magical about that style. I just liked his attitude. =)|||you should try sholin kung-fu…it%26#039;s the base of all Martial Arts|||Try Karate.|||Judo is great for people who are petite. You use the other person%26#039;s body weight against them. You will learn how to throw people twice your size. My Mum was a brown belt. I learned a lot of the principles from her. Its amazing stuff.

Kung fu is also great. My college roomie was a small girl and had her black belt. It gave her not only strength, but grace and coordination a ballet dancer would envy.

Both of them take a lot of discipline and hard work, but both pay off in the end.|||try a magnum 45, you wont end up with a punched in face ether|||Get proper training from a professional trainer and do regular stretching exercises and jogging/swimming before sunrise.|||I think u should take anyone b/c i saw that show finial fu and they have all diff trypes of martial arts and that all kind of do the same thing. So good luck and GOD BLESS|||well pick something that suits you..research them… tae kwon do and kick boxing i took for 8 years and focus on strength and large muscle groups for fighting so maybe there not your cup of tea but dim mak and judo deal more with inertia and the enemy%26#039;s force to beat them and throws and pressure points and technical stuff … but deffinitely go to a few dojo%26#039;s and ask about the different techniques and stuff to figure out what would suit you the best…. besides all of that though if your that small and want to be able to defend yourself carry a small knife and mase just to be save!|||Since you%26#039;re not big, go for brazilian jiu jitsu. It%26#039;s a GREAT work out and you will have a lot of fun and opporunity to test out thing you learn pretty much everyday.

Muay Thai is also a very good style, most Thai fighters are small but they%26#039;re known to deliver a nasty powerful blows.

If you want to be serious about martial arts, stay away from any gym that teach mystic stuff (Dim Mak, Kung Fu, Tai Chi) or sell you black belt. You need to find gym that spar/grapple hard, do live spar, pads work, bagwork, etc… If you end up stand in row and throw punch/kick at command, have to strap yourself in some weird suit of paddles before do non contact spar, etc… Then you better get out FAST!

So out of list you ask, the most realistic thing for you would be:

Muay Thai/kickboxing

juu jitsu

judo

You also may want to check out wrestling (yes your high school or college wrestling team!), Sambo, boxing, and few other styles.

Oh also stay away from any place that claim you don%26#039;t need any power, strenght, or skill to be good fighter! A good gym would let you learn what you need on your own, they simply guide you and show you how to do thing and have you work on the technique.|||Jujitsu is a good martial art to do.|||I would say jeet kune do. It focuses on more than just moves but the overall theory behind effective real world martial arts. Not just automated responses to real world situations.

Second you will never fight like in the movies. Fighting in movies is similar watching a complicated dance routine. That%26#039;s why theres choreography. If you want something form driven and %26quot;flashy%26quot; try wing chun or the hard form of tai chi.|||Movies are choreographed. Real fights are never that clean or glamorous.

Please look for a good school, not a good style. You will find many past questions on yahoo concerning the subject of finding a good school.

Suppose you go to a Jui jitsu school in your area because you heard it is a good art. ( and it is a good art I think) However the worst school in the nation just happens to be the one in your town. And you join it because it is a good art. You see what I mean? You will get nothing good from a bad school.

Look for a good school, not a good art.|||Well, nothing in the movies is for real, ESPECIALLY the fighting. It is all choreographed out, and in a real fight or self defense situation, you can never count on your opponent being exactly where you want them to be, so there is no way to fight as in the movies for real.

What you should do, is look for a qualified Self defense instructor, and learn those techniques. When you learn self defense or as the Army now calls it, COMBATIVES training, you will be more prone to success instead of worrying about stances and forms, and more prone to walking away from a confrontation in one piece and alive.

The first thing you should learn however in any style of MA or self defense is to walk away from the situation, if possible, you don%26#039;t always have to fight.

But if you are forced to defend yourself, and you have no other choice, then you need to learn and remember to strike first and strike the hardest, and put them down, don%26#039;t draw it out.

The longer they stay on their feet, and conscious the more of a chance they have of beating you. So stun them and stop them, with breaking something, or knocking them out cold FAST.

Of course there are the alternatives. If you live in a state that supports the right to carry concealed, and were over the age of 21, you could aquire a concealed carry permit, and the firearm to go along with it, as well as the proper training. Or maybe a stun gun or a taser, they do wonders on people as well.

Again, something that knocks them down first, or before they get near you, and well, if they plan on doing bodily harm to you, you need to act as swiftly as possible.

Regardless of how you plan and prepare to defend yourself or others, learn the laws to help protect yourself afterwards, and practice with the skills/tools you plan to use, the more you do this, the more they become second nature, and you just perform/use them when needed, and dont have to worry about forgetting or freezing when the problem arises.|||Ok first off I have to repsond to one of the other answers on here. Kung Fu and Tai chi are not mystic arts, they are as serious as any of the other forms on here. Dim Mak is a technique and more of a movie misnomer than anything. Yes the Dim Mak exists, will you ever learn it, probably not. Why because that is something only known by a very select few individuals and they will only teach it again to a very select group of people. Now most Kung Fu or Tai chi classes will not have you sparring on your first night or for the most part on any subsequent night. The reason behind this is because they are going to spend a lot of time first teaching you the basics of the style to insure that when you do spar you understand the concepts behind what you are doing and that you are doing them properly to insure you don%26#039;t hurt yourself.

If you ask me I would tell you to stay away from a school that will have you on the floor sparring within your first couple of weeks. There is no way you can learn what you need to learn to properly deliver punches, kicks, grapples or anything in such a short amount of time.

Do Kung Fu and Tai chi schools teach sparring and self defense of course they do but they are usually held on different nights or during later sessions than the main training session. Most forms of Kung fu and Tai chi have strikes, kicks, grappling and joint lock applications that are great for sparring, and defensive benefits. This is one of the great things about a true Kung Fu style is that you don%26#039;t have to worry about studying a lot of different forms to pick different benefits. A person could study one style of Kung Fu their entire life and still not learn everything there was to master in the style. Does it hurt to study other forms, no not once you have a base understanding of your style so that you will not lose yourself in the two forms. A base understanding will probably take 2-3 years just to feel comfortable in the basics of the style.

Now with me saying that is no best martial art for a body style. That is something that your teacher will help you develop within the style showing you ways to use your size to gain advantage.

That being said I have to give some props to the chinese martial arts as most people on here seem to be leaning towards japanese and okinawan martial arts. Nothing wrong with them but it is also very hard to find and verify a good school as tae kwan do and karate schools tend to be a dime a dozen. Anyone that has studied a little bit and is very flexible can claim to be able to teach these arts. To find a true Kung fu school teacher is a little easier to decifer there are a number of things the teacher (SIfu) should be able to tell you.

1) If it is a proper Kung fu school the instructor should be referred to as Sifu.

2) They should be able to tell you their lineage and trace it back to the founding of the style.

3) They should be able to tell you if the style is northern (long attacks that cover a lot of distance) or southern (short tight stance work that stays in a relatively small area)

4) They should tell you if the form is hard (external) or soft (internal)

If the school cannot answer these questions or says that they teach all of the forms then walk away as they are not a traditional Kung Fu school

The final part of your question states you want to learn to fight like they do in the movies if you want to do that learn Wu Shu which is more theatrical and less practical than other forms of Kung Fu. A Wu Shu practioner will run across a stage to perform one high flying spin kick, though very showy this is not practical in a day to day situation.|||if its a martial art for self defense i would go with kickboxing.. i%26#039;m 5 ft 125lbs and i study mma style fighting (which includes boxing, kickboxing, jkd trapping and submissions wrestling) i%26#039;m also devote tai chi chuan practicioner (it%26#039;s my primary art) i also do krav maga (self defense system) and escrima (stick fighting).. it is hard to find the time to do everything, i guess that%26#039;s why i%26#039;m up at 5 am to start my training.. but it%26#039;s all worth it at the end of the day..

i wouldn%26#039;t put much emphasis on fighting like they do in the movies, even though you have skilled martial artist in the movies(most of the time) it%26#039;s all choreographed and stunted..

to learn something that will help you on the street as well as a martial art kickboxing is good.. although i%26#039;ve always recommended that any woman should take a self defense course, like krav maga, or r.a.t. or some other type of self defense system.. in those courses they teach different things than straight martial arts.. its a little more innovative in its approach.. you learn how to stop an attack and flee the scene, how to use natural reactions (like flinching when someone throws a punch at you) to combat an attack and open the lines of attack for you..

as a woman, a small woman for that matter, you have to face the facts that no matter how skilled you become in your art you will never be physically stronger than a man..

it%26#039;s not my rule, it%26#039;s god%26#039;s rule..

so you learn to cheat, learn to use your enviroment to your advantage.. an attacker might be stronger than you but he%26#039;s not stronger than gravity..

as for my tai chi chuan, yes it%26#039;s a beautiful martial art (and it is a %26#039;martial art%26#039; as many people misconceptions might tell you) and it%26#039;s a brutal art at that.. it takes a while to learn, but once you do, it can be a great equalizer for people of our size and stature.. it%26#039;s almost 80% shuay jiao, which is chinese grappling.. with hard throws and locks.. each stance has the option of being a strike, kick, lock or throw.. it%26#039;s one of the oldest and most esquisit arts in the world, disguising it%26#039;s brutality with a soft gentle exterior.. like i said it does take time to learn to use it as a martial art therefore i always recommend that you learn a form of self defense or an external art, like kickboxing/muay thai.. i%26#039;m not naive and i personally know that although i%26#039;ve been studying tai chi for a while i would have a better chance of survival in a life-death situation if i used my krav maga and kickboxing techniques..

hope this gives you an added insite.. if you have any questions i%26#039;m always around..

~*good luck*~|||Your best bet is to try out the class. If the class is worth anything you can at least observe the class first. The dedication of the students and the skill of the teacher and his/her ability to teach is key. That will probably take precedence over the art form. Movie martial arts are not real…a real fight doesn%26#039;t go like that. Sorry.

For your size, Judo, ju jitsu would be fine. Depending upon the teacher, Tai chi can be good if taught as a fighting art (and that is what you want). Jeetkune do usually combines disciplines. If the instructor is good, then that would be good. Best of luck.|||WE TEACH all those arts sounds like you need hand to hand combat training contact me for help and check out our website www.whitedragonkenpo.com

In real life how many guys can 1 man beat ??

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

In real life how many guys can 1 man beat ??

It shows Bruce Lee, Jet Li, and all those other good fighters beating alot of guys at the same time, do you think that%26#039;s possible, or do they add extra stunt guys for parts like that in movies ??

THIS QUESTION GOES TO ONLY TRUE MARTIAL ARTIST:

If %26quot; Fist of Fury %26quot; ( which is basically energy, fire, and adrenaline running through your body with power %26amp; force )

If %26quot; Fist of Fury %26quot; was applied correctly, how many guys do you think Bruce Lee, Jet Li or someone good like those solo street fighters could beat at the same time ???

Hope I get some good answers, I like learning about the true meaning of Martial Arts %26amp; Kung Fu … I never get tired of it, it%26#039;s pretty amazing !|||That%26#039;s depend on if your attackers have a plan or not. I have seen a Thai boxer beat 8,9 guys on the street before because he was well trained and could take their punches but they couldn%26#039;t take his punches or kicks. The different is in the movie the star never got hit, in real life you will get hit often. The Thai boxer I mention above won the fight but he had to go to hospital afterward for many stitches. If those 8,9 guys had a plan to shoot for his legs he would of loss but they fought him standing up. They all charged at him instead of circling him and tired him out so the outcome depend on the attackers.|||Some one who is trained in Martial Arts or any other fighting skill such as boxing could possible defeat two men of his size

but if he had to fight three or more he wouldn%26#039;t stand a chance. The only exception would be if he could be in a hallway or passage where they had to come at him one at a time. And even Bruce lee could not have beaten a man who had a ballbat or club.|||1 guy can beat lots of other guys

i have seen it before it all depends on how strong/crazy/mad skilled they are

most fights seem to involve alchol and drunk people are easy to beat down usually

i hope that answers your question|||I had a friend who took 3 at once. BUT…he was a state champ and was the fastest guy I%26#039;ve ever seen in real life. He was 6%26#039;4%26quot; and could get his kicks up to my head (also 6%26#039;4%26quot;). He kicked one guy in the head and put him out, smashed another guy in the nose, and then took out the other guy.

He was then banned from the dance club it happened at. Bouncers aren%26#039;t too happy when they can%26#039;t take out the clients.|||Staticistily It is said that a Person Trained VS People not trained that the Trained Person can take on 2-3 untrained people at one time.

So 2 to 3 people is your answer on average. Some can do more most can%26#039;t|||There are many variables. The health, strenth and skill of the opponents. The training of the martial artist. Conditioning. If you can find a wall, and limite your opponents to 4 or 5 at a time, and they don%26#039;t bull rush you, overpowering you with 5000 pounds of human flesh, you can last pretty long. Fear is your greatest ally in this situation.|||http://youtube.com/watch?v=6Tv3LMNnkMg

Apparently 3 or 4|||Depends alot on his foes. History records where Troy got wasted due to 1 mans expertise with the sword. His name was Achilles and well it is history. Then you have the story of Lancelot as well, and that is also history.

So it is possible depending on your foes.

A fair fight 1 on 1 is it, 2 on 1 and well thats when the tide changes.|||well there are several martial arts styles that teach multiple attackers at once not one at a time in Aikido we can handle up to 10-12ppl at once but you have to be skilled to do this meaning shodan and above. they are coming at you like someone would come at you on the street( wide open) no holds bar. but for the most part 4-5 person easy for any Aikido person that is blue belt and above.|||In a real adrenaline charged fight with no weapons?

Against untrained opponents, and unless they all are very drunk, I%26#039;d say 2 to 3 guys tops, depending on their size and strength, you have to keep the fatigue factor in mind too, if you tire out before you can put one or two of em down, then you%26#039;re in big trouble.

Against a trained opponent, then only one at a time. To go up against 2 trained opponents would be very difficult and you%26#039;d have to rely on luck to come out in one piece. Just think of it this way, if we were to use the UFC as an example( just humor me for a moment), what if Tito Ortiz stepped into the octagon to fight against Ken and Frank Shamrock at the same time, do you think he%26#039;d be able to beat both of them? I don%26#039;t think so, he%26#039;d probably be able to beat one, but not both.|||My friend, you watch entirely too much TV. Please go find a martial art school and begin to train.|||Seriously 90 percent of the people posting aren%26#039;t realistic.

(Especially the moron who said with Aikido he could take 10 to 12 guys at a Shodan level) Tell you what Timber, I will take two cocky college gym rats or frat boys off the street and place them against any one of your Aikido blue belts and bet you a hefty sum they whip his @ss. Then I will take 3 guys and place them against any Aikido Shodan, and bet you are a large sum of money (whatever you can afford) that they will also have him on the ground in the fetal position getting curb stomped.

Further more I will take One amateur level MMA guy (of which I have a dozen) and take on ANY of your Aikido guys and place a wager that he will knock them out or tap them out, with absolutely no rules. (aside from being unnarmed)

(Feel free to message me to make this happen)

Fast (Achilles and Lancelot are folklore, myths or legends, not really recorded history)

Keeping this open for good stories, is a good idea. Since most of the people are doing just that… telling stories.

Any real fighter will tell you the prospects of even two guys would be very difficult, much less 3 or 4. That is unrealistic and moronic.

I have studied Martial Arts for 24 years now, fought MMA professionally for 3 years, (3-1 Pro, 5-0 amateur) been part of a MMA gym for 6 years, won a National Championship in Judo, placed in the top 3 in a few international competetions in Judo, fought 12 amateur kickboxing matches under Muay Thai rules (10-2), 4 under San Shou (3-1),, was 8-0 in amateur boxing smokers while in the Army.

I%26#039;ve studied Judo,(Nidan) BJJ,(purple) Sambo,(4 years) Muay Thai(4 years), Krav Maga,(brown belt, A-C certified) U.S. Army Combatatives Program, Aikido,(2 years) Goju Karate, Coung Nhu, Jujitsu, Uechi Ryu Karate, Kyokushin Karate, dabbled with Hung Gar, Wing Chun, Hapkido, and a few other exotics.

Does that make me a TRUE enough Martial Artist?

I still no REALISTICALLY that taking on 2 guys, (unless both are pretty drunk) is a risky proposition, I wouldn%26#039;t dream of trying to deal with 3 or 4. Could I do it? Enough to escape maybe, I would avoid any situation remotely close to that.

Streetfighting has a high degree of luck involved, you can throw skill in there to help your outcome, but realistically fighting people on the street you are taking a chance period. You HOPE they are weaponless, and you hope they don%26#039;t have someone in the woodworks.

Most of the time a multiple attacker situation doesn%26#039;t occur with 2 or 3 guys standing there. It happens when you just so happen to start tusseling with one guy, get the better of him when his buddy sucker punches you from behind, or you get flat out jumped.

You can do things to try to limit that, and in truth most people (adults that is) will never have a street fight, unless one or both parties involved are drunk.

It%26#039;s not like people just walk around looking for a fight, most situations are completely avoidable anyway.

But if they took Fedor, Bruce Lee, Kimura, Rickson Gracie, Dan Inosanto, Paul Vunak, Yip Man, Chuck Norris, Jerome Le Banner, Buakaw Por Pramuk, and any one else you can think of, and combined them all into one bad *** fighter.

The chances of him effectively taking out 3 or 4 sober attackers wouldn%26#039;t be that great, much less anything over that. At least not the way a REAL mutliple attacker situation would play out. Maybe if they had 3 guys in front of them, and those guys were utter dumb@sses.

But realistically, you are getting sucker punched, attacked from more than direction, and not really with punches. Multiple attacker situations are looking to get you to the ground.

I am by no means a %26quot;Master%26quot; grappler, but I have won plenty of grappling tournaments, I was an All State Wrestler in high school, won my State%26#039;s NAGA events a few times, won National and Internation Judo events, and I can tell you that I would have a really hard time trying to prevent 3 guys from taking me down.

No matter how devastating I make my attacks, I still have to make them on one person at a time period. So while I can defend myself as best as possible I am still going to take a beating against 3 guys.

Two guys I can see, but with taking some punishment.

Against three guys I am using a knife, a gun, or whatever weapon I can find to make my neutralization of opponents as fast as possible, but chances are I will still walk away pretty messed up. (With the gun exception, unless they too have guns).

You know how to tell if a Martial Artist is BSing himself? He tells you he can take out 4 or 5 guys, and can easily take out a weapon wielding opponent.

You want to actually prepare for two or three guys, trying sparring 2 or 3 guys at a time. Not planned attacks, not them waiting, but two guys actually trying to land shots on you, and trying to hurt you. Then tell me you are %26quot;prepared%26quot; for multiple opponents.

No Art will effectively prepare you for multiple opponents. It is a losing situation. Forget the movies, forget T.V. forget the Kobra Kai dojo guys, forget the Kung Fu masters and Chi wannabes, forget the hype.

Martial Arts are not a magic bullet that makes you an unstoppable @sskicker. Guys who fight for a living get beat up by multiple guys, or stabbed, or shot.

The stories you hear about some guy taking out 3 or 4 guys are mostly made up, and the ones that are true were VERY lucky and had a lot things go their way.

I have taken out 3 guys at a time, but those were 3 very drunk guys, and having back up on the way, and the law on my side, and a 180 lumens Surefire Taclight in my hand. (Does wonders in a dark club or outside at night when you blast a dude in the eyes with it)

It is a very risky proposition period, and the people who actually deal with physical situations on a daily basis make sure that the numbers are in their favor. Hence the reason why Law Enforcement officers always have back up, and the reason why you will see two bouncers escourting one person out.

Even in a one on one street situation, a lucky punch can occur and a skilled person can lose to an unskilled person. Multiply those factors by 2 or 3 now. With blows coming from different directions, different body sizes, different skill levels and styles of fighting.

I am not saying it is impossible, I am just saying the odds are against you, and a lot of things have to go your way, even if you are very skilled to take out two or more guys.

So you can throw out what a lot of these guys are saying, because they are in love with the mystique of Martial Arts and embrace it.

The cold reality of life and fighting is that it is a risky proposition, and being skilled helps but isn%26#039;t necessarily garunteeing you victory. And against more than one person, and you are fortunate they are unnarmed, it takes more than just skill to handle that situation.

Just my opinion, and my experience.

Fancy/flashy martial arts?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

Which one out of karate, kung fu, ju jit su, tae kwon do and chinese kickboxing looks most impressive when practising? Not which one is most useful in a real fight, but which one is more for show and resembles more what you see in video games and movies? thnx :]|||Nowadays I%26#039;d say Kung fu , modern Karate, and tae kwon do.

I%26#039;ve been to competitions for these martial arts nowadays and they look very similar, alot of forms, katas and flashy techniques that wouldn%26#039;t work on a fight.

i did ryobu-kai karate 15 years ago, and the competitions I%26#039;ve seen nowadays look nothing like they did back then. Lots of kata, weapons ??(karate is supposed to be empty-hand), the karategis used to be all white, now they have flashy colors. competitions were 50% kata and 50% kumite, Nowadays I saw 90% kata. We sparred full-contact with 4 oz gloves, and a cup, nowadays the kumite I saw the fighters had so much gear they looked like astronauts.

I have to say that on the list you included jujitsu and chinese kickboxing are the most practical ones. jujitsu has already proven this, and chinese kickboxing (Sanda, Sanshou), is arguably as effective as muay thai, if you doubt me look up Cung Le.|||I think its Kung Fu because with all the speed, acrobatics and swordplay involved, it looks very cool and also when you see the breaking techniques, you%26#039;ll be amazed.|||agree ^^

i think its kung fu..not only because of its fancy moves and flashy stunts but because all other form of martial art is somehow rooted to kung fu..|||I%26#039;d have to say kung fu…some of the forms of the various styles just look poetic to me. I love watching some of the wu shu competitions from China.|||There are styles of Wushu (kung fu) that are quite flashy, as well as newer versions of %26quot;freestyle%26quot; karate, and Taekwondo.|||Wushu is the flamboyant side of Kung-fu. Over exaggerative stances and movements. What alot of people that criticize Kung-fu or Wushu don%26#039;t understand is that alot of the stances and movements are actually training your ability to move that way exaggeratively or strengthening balance for weight shifts that you will need to perform the art effectively. You%26#039;re not supposed to jump into actual combat standing on one foot with your arms spread out wide- that would be quite foolish. However, standing on one foot and practicing your hand forms is an excellent way to maintain yourself when you ARE off balance and on one foot.|||I think that Gung Fu styles are very %26quot;movie%26quot; based and look the %26quot;prettiest. I also think that tkd has a very flashy look to it. Both, of course would get the sh** kicked out of you if you ever tried it in a real fight. Karate is to linear and %26quot;robotic%26quot; to look flashy and fancy. Ju jitsu is the least of the flashy and, in my view, the only one on the list that is effective in real life.|||Kung Fu definitely|||none of them should be %26quot;impressive%26quot; when you practice them properly and for thier designed purpose, namely fighting.

the reason behind this really is that you don%26#039;t want to %26quot;telegraph%26quot; what you are doing to your opponent, if your %26quot;audience%26quot; can see it, your opponent certainly can.

even the %26quot;real%26quot; versions of these arts are not what you see in video games and movies.

do you really think ong bak was %26quot;real%26quot; muai thai (I don%26#039;t even think tony jaa studied muai thai)?

as the least dramatized of the arts you mentioned, if they do it to muai thai, they can and will do it to EVERY marital art in the movies and games.

the difference bieng that the moves and techniques in movies must be OVERT for the safety of the actors and for the entertainment of the audience,

in a real practical use it must be COVERT for the safety of oneself and the ability to defeat your opponent.|||On the general, wushu is more flashy. But if a practicer has learnt from someone who has refused to let go the true essense, wushu can be one of the most powerful thing. Flashy stuff in wushu are not unpractical, provided that you understand each and evey move.

All martial art can be really fanciful and flashy depending on the practicer himself. It depends on his purpose. There are ppl out there who do acrobatic moves that look like some kick and call it karate or taekwondo.|||The style doesn%26#039;t matter.

The quality and frequency of training is more important.

I have seen all the arts you mentioned interpreted in different ways.

I have seen some schools teach very practical TKD and I have also seen total flash.

So, what matters is the teacher, the student and the training methods….not the actual art.|||Tae kwon do and wushu kung fu have the flashiest moves.|||probably kung fu different forms of wushu are known for its flashy moves and performance along with acrobatics, also taekwondo tends to have flashy kicks. also look into capoeira|||Hands Down! Fujian Bai He Quan - the Fukien White Crane Fist. Simplistic Beauty.

Sleeping Crane

Feeding Crane

Shouting Crane

Flying Crane

Then there%26#039;s Yong Chun White Crane Fist

(also pronounced Wing Chun, which is a city in Fukien Province, not the Art of WC)

Among the HAKKA Arts:

Southern Preying Mantis Fist

Chow Gar

and one of my very Favorites: Bak Mei

To hell with the flashy stuff. Let%26#039;s be ugly and deadly.|||Kung Fu|||Everyone (Except for 1 or 2) above is completely wrong. Martial arts don%26#039;t look flashy, the person performing the art does. You have to remember that martial arts can%26#039;t make a person look a certain way, nor is it an object that fights. Alot of people make that misconception.

So really the only way to over come your fears you have to face them.|||You can try meeting girls through your guy friends. Then once you have some friends that are girls you can gradually get better at talking to them. You sound like a really great guy and I%26#039;m sure you%26#039;ll find a girl out there you can talk to. You just have to give girls a chance to get to know you. From what you sound like, what girl wouldn%26#039;t like you?

A lot of people have this problem, (including me sometimes) you just have to work with it. Be yourself. Maybe you can talk to someone at your job. Just as friends at first and after you get to know each other–and if you like each other–you can go out. It won%26#039;t happen over night though, you need to give it time and have patience. There%26#039;s a lot of people out there, you%26#039;ll meet someone.|||You call yourself cocky but you won%26#039;t/can%26#039;t talk to girls. It sounds like you have it together. Watch/listen to how your boys do it its not that hard. Your problem is u are worried about getting shot down. I%26#039;m I right. Well don%26#039;t be. U live in NY there are tons of women around. If some girl doesn%26#039;t like you. Just say next and move on. The day I figured this out. I started to do much better. Try to find a common ground and then go from there. Also play up the accent a lot of women love that sh-t.|||u sound 2 cute :)

Asian Racial Jokes 2: How to be a Twinkie?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

How to Become a Twinkie

Americanize your name. Names like Raja become Roger and names like Wei Tong become Jason.

Unlearn/do not learn your native language.

Listen to white people music. Also, any sort of techno remix of a song in your native tongue is off limits.

Go to parties where you will be known as “That Asian Guy.” No reason to be at a party with more than one of you.

Shop where white people shop. That means Abercrombie and Fitch, don’t half-*** it and go to Old Navy.

Talk in catch phrases and famous lines from movies, as long as they’re funny. It%26#039;s not like anyone cares what you think anyway.

Learn more about American History than you could ever know about your own. Your cultural history is just that: history.

Date a white man or woman. Remember you have to act like them to become them. That includes dating.

Under no circumstances can you watch Anime, Bollywood, or Kung Fu films.

Do not associate yourself with any FOBs. As far as you know, they’re just weird.

Never ever be caught saying, “Where the curry at?” or “Dim Sum, I’ll have me sum of that.”

Never ever visit the home country. As far as you know, it smells. Do you want to come back smelling too?

Watch a lot of porn. You should acquire a taste for white people and porn helps. Keep telling yourself “There is no BOA” or “Aishwarya Rai does not exist.”

Exception to the rule: Your parents are going to force you into a career. Probably a stereotypical one for an Asian. Live with it.

Do not join ethnic frats or clubs. They only promote your culture.

Bangra, Yoga and Wushu are ethnic foods in your mind. Not dancing and martial arts.

Never ask your parents the names of the food you’re eating but be the master of ordering take out.

For the girls: use “like” at least sevens times per sentence, i.e., “Like, let’s go, like, to the, like, movies.”

Also for the girls: pin up the pictures of the Abercrombie guys everywhere. They are the only acceptable standard for what is hot.

Another for girls: Highlights, belly button rings and glitter. Everyone else is doing it. No natural beauty is allowed!|||Deepest Ocean

The love you gave me will always live

You%26#039;ll always be there every time I call

You offered me the greatest love of all

Can anyone recommend some truly GOOD martial arts flicks?

Jet Li%26#039;s The Enforcer

Jet Li%26#039;s Fearless

Hero

Kung Fu Hustle

Enter The Dragon

Kickboxer

Bloodsport

are amongst my favorites. I got nothing to do today so I think I%26#039;ll watch a bunch of martial arts movies. Just need some help in thinking some movies to watch. Hopefully something I have never seen before. Thanks.|||%26quot;The Black Mask%26quot; is a good Jet Li movie.

But you should really go to the source of ALL Martial Arts movies. You probably think I%26#039;m going to say Bruce Lee, and he was phenominal, but the fella I have in mind is, the one, the only,

Sonny Chiba. If you saw %26quot;Kill Bill, Part 2%26quot;, Sonny Chiba was the swordsmith who swore a blood oath to never make another sword until Kiddo showed up and mentioned Bill%26#039;s name. In the 60s and 70s, Chiba made a series of some of the grittiest Martial Arts movies ever filmed, %26quot;the Streetfighter%26quot; series, which include, %26quot;The Streetfighter%26quot;, the Return of the Streetfighter%26quot; and %26quot;The Streetfighter%26#039;s Last Revenge%26quot;. Tarantino%26#039;s character in %26quot;True Romance%26quot;, the one played by Christian Slater, is going on and on at the beginning of THAT movie about Chiba.

%26quot;The Streetfighter%26quot; movies are Chinese productions, badly dubbed, but somehow fascinating nonetheless, maybe because the stunts are so godawful dangerous and they do the scene anyway, one take, winner takes all. I dont even want to think how many of the stunt fighters got killed or badly injured in some of the fights, (while other %26quot;action fights%26quot; are so obviously choreographed as to be completely distracting). All the icons (and, at this point, cliches, except THESE are where the cliches got their START) of the Oriental gangs. These movies are bloody, but I promise you, the series will make you look at Jet Li and Jackie Chan in a whole new light.|||house of flying daggers is beautiful and it has some mind boggling moves|||Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior is missing from your list

Unleashed had a few decent fight scenes in it.|||well, i always liked the karate kid. but its really cheesy. but if you haven%26#039;t seen it you should give it a try.|||KISS OF DRAGON

UNLEASHED. Both Jet-Li films!|||master of the flying guillotine|||The Matrix has some cool martial art moves in it as well as cool entertainment factor.|||check out Jackie Chan%26#039;s movies, Donnie Yen%26#039;s SPL: Sha Po Lang, Flash Point.. jet li%26#039;s war.. hmmm cant think of anythin more.. there%26#039;s loads of good martial arts movies.. hope u enjoy watchin em all|||WARRIOR KING

Any martial arts movie buffs?

I%26#039;m trying to remember the name of the Gordon Liu movie where he is not a student, but works @ the shaolin temple %26amp; teaches himself kung fu between watching the students %26amp; working. Anyone??|||Hmmmm…. I know exactly what movie you%26#039;re referring to, but for the life of me I can%26#039;t seem to recall the title.

I know it wasn%26#039;t the Master Killer because that%26#039;s where he sneaks into Shaolin and ends up not only learning king fu to get revenge on the Manchus, but he supposedly invents the 3 section staff (nunchakus).

I%26#039;m wondering if the movie you%26#039;re thinking about is the 36th Chamber? Honestly, I don%26#039;t remember.

Do I have to play the previous Final Fantasy games before buy the 13th game?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

I saw to 2 Final Fantasy movies. I don%26#039;t understand how they have anything to do each other. 1 had a bunch of kung fu dudes jumping 100 feet into the air and a giant tiger and the other movie had alien ghost thing attacking people.

WTF is Final Fantasy ??????????|||Each game has its different story. Thats it.|||not all final fantasy games are related, one might take place in a different world. The movie advent children is related to final fantasy 7 while the other movies isnt related to anything. If you get final fantasy 13 you wont be lost.

Final fantasy is a RPG series.|||Each game in the series has a different story line, so no you don%26#039;t have to play the other games before 13.|||No, the games don%26#039;t really link to each other.|||the one you are talking about is Final Fantasy 7 Advent childern and the other movie Final Fantasy Spirits within have nothing to do with each other

Final Fantasy was suppose to be the last game that Squaresoft ever made but it became so popular that they made more if you play any final fantasy it has nothing to do with another one except final fantasy 10 and 10-2

and final fantasy 7 and final fantasy 7 Dirge of Cirberus

Final fantasy is an rpg video game seris (meaning Role Playing Game)

they made Final Fantasy Advent Childern based off of Final Fantasy 7|||I%26#039;ve played most of the Final Fantasy games, at least the ones for ps1 and ps2, and they are wonderful. Great storylines and as the systems improved the graphics did, too.

While you don%26#039;t have to play any of the previous ones to understand the present one–they can all be standalone games–X and X-2 are related, as is VII and Dirge of Cerebus, it is interesting to find %26quot;easter eggs%26quot; as you play through them. There is usually a character named Cid in each one: he%26#039;s a team member in VII, a headmaster in VIII, a king in IX, Rikku%26#039;s uncle in X, etc. The characters of Biggs and Wedge (actually homage to Star Wars) appear in several of the games–in XII the names are actually anagrammed, sortof. The Chocobo is a Final Fantasy staple.

So while the stories are not interconnected, there is a lot to tie them together. It%26#039;s fun as you play the next game in the series just to see if you can find all the %26quot;easter eggs!%26quot;|||When Square-Enix (the game developer) was simply SquareSoft or simply Square Inc., they neck deep in lackluster sales. So, they decided to create a then revolutionary form of role-playing video game called Final Fantasy.

Why the term %26#039;Final%26#039;? At the time, Square thought it would be their last title to be published and decided to put all their available creativity into it. Well, it was an unexpected big hit for them, and the rest is history considering all the titles published afterwards.

Like everyone else here has had said, no two titles are the same in storyline (with the exceptions of Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 for what I call the Spira series and…. also Final Fantasy XII and Final Fantasy: Reverant Wings for the DS with what I call the Vaan-Ivalice series)

As for the later examples, those two titles stemmed from the Final Fantasy Tactics series (both of which take place in the world of Ivalice but purportedly in different eras)

If I were you, play these must-have titles:

Final Fantasy VI (the one with the Espers and Kefka - villian who actually does succeed in one of his plans like ruling the world)

Final Fantasy VII (the first 3D polygon verision of the series)

Final Fantasy X (the first use of voice talents in the series)

and its sequel X-2 just to complete any cliffhanger endings and plotlines of the Spira series

Final Fantasy XII (my personal fav) (one title that focuses more on the setting and the surrounding politics rather than a love story within a save the world for a metrosexual menace)|||Final Fantasy is a franchise of games connected by common features, but usually not plots. They typically contain oversized chickens called Chocobos, humanoid cacti called Catuars, either 4 or 8 mystical crystals that posess great natural power, Airships, and some guy named Cid who is usually either an airship mechanic or a scientist of some sort.

For a long time, each FF game took place in its own universe. However, this has changed recently. All the Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy 12 games are on the planet of Ivalice. All the FF7 games are on a planet called Gaia. FFX and FFX-2 are direct sequels, and FF7 and FFX take place on different planets in the same universe.

So past games aren%26#039;t directly necessary to understand what is going on. Since they do have common features, and typically the battle systems build on each other, it can help you to know what to do against a certain type of enemy. But the stories are typically wholely contained in each individual game.|||Final fantasy is the best rpg game for ur ps2 it has the best storylines, great graphics and cool gameplay. Each sequal for the final fantasy game has diffrent characters and story

i felt the same way lol! I saw both final fantasy movies i thought it was pretty cool. Then after i saw the movies i decided to buy the game.

My first and only final fantasy game i have is %26quot;Final Fantasy X.

That one is the bestt one but i didnt finish it yet.

To answer ur question i would think all the final fantasy games are about the same but diffrent storylines and characters. So you dont have to play the previous one cause each game is diffrent.

I hope this helps :) Happing Gaming|||final fantasies are not connected. except ff12 and revenant wings, ffx and x-2, and ff7, dirge of cerberus, dirge of cerberus:lost episode, crisis core, before crisis, advent children, last order and the ps3 demo of ff7|||Haha… Lot of people ask the same thing every day

Final Fantasy is a game made By Square-Enix

all of them usually have good storyline and it%26#039;s not related each other. (but Final Fantasy VII have lots of compilation start from the game until the movie you saw as flying kungfu)

If you want to buy the 13th game you didn%26#039;t need to know about the previous game. Because they have it%26#039;s own storyline.

Martial arts or basketball?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

I know its a bizare question, but evryday i think about this and its giving me trouble. I love basketball, and i also love martial arts, espacially kung fu, but I dont know what to do beetwen concentrating on basketball or martial arts. if its basketball, i could maybe have a chance to go far even the nba and all the good stuff and wtv, but the bad side of it is at the end of an basketball career, there is nothing else to do, theres emptyness. With martial arts, even tho its hard, u could, to get popular and have the money and fame, if your lucky enought to do movies and sttuff, but at least martial arts, espacialy kung fu, is something that never ends even when u get old. I really wanna be the best at eihter one of them but i really dont know wich one, i get alot of pressure sumtimes from my family to play basketball because their really not into martial arts, and my cousin syays martial arts is the best way of life. So many stuff, sumbody has an idea?, please i need serious answers|||You should pick the one that you love and enjoy the most. But if you feel you can%26#039;t choose do both.|||I say do what you like the best. Logically, though, I think you should get serious about your basketball right now. You can do martial arts as a hobby for right now. If your basketball career doesn%26#039;t work out then train at your martial arts.|||I think wateva you like the best. Martial Arts kind of releaves stress and clears your mind. But basketball teaches you disciplen and trains you.wateva you like best.

Bruce Lee Movie - horse whip and clay pots?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

I%26#039;m looking for the title of a martial arts movie. It stars someone that, as a child, I thought was Bruce Lee, but it may be one of the %26quot;pretenders to the throne%26quot; after he died. I saw it on television, Saturday morning %26quot;Kung Fu Theater.%26quot; Here is what I remember:

He ran a martial arts school.

He got beat up.

He trained hard (can you say montage?), by kicking clay pots filled with water.

He fought bad guy after bad guy, and even fought a guy who was on a horse, who weilded a whip. This scene, I think, was shot on a green-grass field with trees planted in rows.

The end bad guy had a white uniform with a wide red belt.

Our hero, of course, was the victor.

I know this could describe multiple movies, and I saw it so long ago (likely 1982 or thereabouts). Any help is appreciated.|||It%26#039;s not a Bruce Lee movie. But it might be Prodigal Son with Biao Yuen.|||Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story

Chuck Norris was the big baddie in the end, wearing all white, but I think he might%26#039;ve had a black belt - not a red one.

Basic plot, he visits relatives in Italy where they run a restaurant. The restaurant is harrassed by some sort of gangsters who want to buy the property. Regular story - Bruce doesn%26#039;t want to fight but gets backed into a corner and has to fight the fighter-for-hire Chuck Norris. Cool movie just to watch Bruce Lee and Norris square off at the end.

On the other hand, if it%26#039;s one of the Bruce Lee wannabes, I%26#039;d have no idea. There%26#039;s far too many of them.|||Sounds like all of the kung fu movies, Sorry|||Sounds Like .

What did Stephen Chow mean about Praying Mantis?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

In %26quot;Shao-lin soccer,%26quot; Stephen Chow mocks a skinny kid who shows him a praying mantis form and says %26quot;you%26#039;re giving kung fu a bad name.%26quot; In an earlier movie I read that he killed a master of a %26quot;lost%26quot; praying mantis style with a can of bug spray.

Is Praying Mantis considered less effective for combat by other kung fu practitioners?|||In the movie, the Chinese conversation actually went as follows,

Stephen, %26quot;You%26#039;ve studied Praying Mantis Fist?%26quot;

Shaking Kid nods, %26quot;A little.%26quot;

Stephen, %26quot;Then stop giving Shaolin kungfu a bad name.%26quot;

This conversation is based on the assumption that the audience knows the commonly spread history that Praying Mantis kungfu has its origins in Shaolin temple and that it is considered one of the higher level arts at the temple. A monk would normally practice years of other fists before even touching the basics of Praying Mantis. The shaking kid%26#039;s rendition made a mockery of Shaolin arts with his watered down attempt at holding the posture %26quot;Praying Mantis Catches the Cicada.%26quot;

Because the Praying Mantis system%26#039;s widespead fame in Hong Kong, many movies have made the style the top and bottom of the kungfu foodchain with masters of deadly mantis in some and idiots of shaky mantis in others. The exchange in this movie was actually paying homage to the classic hongkong kungfu flicks.|||are you talking about southern or northern mantis?

i%26#039;m not the guy to ask. southern is unrelated to northern and rather secretive. it is meant for fighting and doesn%26#039;t look as pretty either.|||Basically any style of martial arts where the practitioner strikes a pose is considered to %26quot;foofy%26quot;.

This striking pose thing became big at the turn of the nineteenth century by a man named Wong Fei Hung. Hung was a martial artist and a doctor who helped out allot of people in his time using his skills. One thing that stood out in every body%26#039;s mind was the fact he would name the positions that he was performing while fighting. This is why people %26quot;strike the pose%26quot; now. But in recent years people who do strike a pose have been novice fighters at best and tarnished many Kung Fu styles known today.

Mantis just so happens to be one of those styles. Mantis is a good system as long as it is taught with the intent of being used as a fighting style. In order to learn this style properly (like many other styles in china) you will receive many bumps and bruises.|||That is a matter of opinion and we all know what opinions are like…

Asian guys have it the worst?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

Honestly, I know people have heard this before, but I do believe that being an Asian guy in America really blows sometimes. When was the last time you ever saw an Asian guy on TV or in a movie that wasn%26#039;t a kung-fu master or a total nerd? When have Asian men ever been portrayed as anything other than sexless, ugly, weak nerds or ugly, sexless, karate masters? I feel like there are very few women and gay men that find Asian men attractive in any way…other than the fact that many Asian guys make good money. I feel like a lot of Asian guys have low self-esteem when it comes to dating…they just assume no people find them attractive and nobody wants to get to know them. They could be smart, sweet, devoted, loyal, and successful, but many do not see themselves as attractive. I feel like no one does. It sucks for Asian guys in the US bc they are always being compared to White guys physically…does anything else matter to people when it comes to attraction? Are Asian guys rejects?|||You crack me up. I don%26#039;t know how you get this distorted view, but you obviously know very little about East Asian culture.

Most of my friends are good looking, sexy, tall, well educated, smart, funny, strong, well-spoken and rich as much as any other ethnicity counterparts.

It is true that I am %26quot;nerdy%26quot;, if you call applying to Dental School to be a doctor of dental surgery %26quot;nerdy%26quot;, but I am pretty damn proud of my accomplishments. But theres checks and balances. Its a sad truth but black babies are born into poor areas of the country on a scale white people cant even imagine. You%26#039;re so right, Asians are always stereotyped in their roles, and not given enough credit.

I believe things will being to change soon. They%26#039;ve already have, but it%26#039;s been a really slow change. With time we will hopefully see more Asian guys playing the romantic leads on TV, and on the big screen too.

It has taken a long time though, too long! I hope most Asian guys do realize, most people see beyond those stereotypes.

God bless you.|||One of my good friends married an asian guy in the states. What should replace karate-type styles in public imagination?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

I never bought the choreographed nonsense in the movies about the striking styles of kung fu, karate, tae kwon do etc. I knew they were developed as a way for unarmed people to fight opponents weighed down by armor. After MMA fights became popular, and these striking, high-kicking styles always lost, I figured people would wise up. Instead there%26#039;s even more absurdly choreographed movies (like Kill Bill, Kung Fu Hustle, Jet Li movies), worsening the public fantasy about the usefulness of these styles.

A style that people actually win with in free fights ought to be promoted to dispel the myth. What should it be - what is the most effective free-fight style, that can also capture people%26#039;s imagination the way karate did?|||i think a combo of boxing and wrestling is great if the guy is big but not to slow and a strong puncher and i agree with you that stuff is lame and is usaully unsuccesful in fights|||%26quot;After MMA fights became popular, and these striking, high-kicking styles always lost…%26quot;

Mirko Cro-Cop has been very successful with a striking, high-kicking style(coupled with a good take-down defense).

Don%26#039;t judge the effectiveness of a style by how it is portrayed in the movies. With a few exceptions, fight choreography for movies has always been exaggerated and ridiculous.

Due to MMA, people are beginning to see that Muy Thai is a truly effective stand-up style and that BJJ is most effective for grappling. I think these two styles will dominate in MMA and also for self-defence. And we could see in movies and TV action heroes who employ Muy Thai and BJJ skills.|||they look good though and the movies are all about entertainment. i am a bjj guy but even ill admit that fighters like wanderlie, liddell, crocop, Anderson Silva, gsp, shogun are the most popular fighter because they kick peoples teeth down there throat , its more exciting for the general public to see rampage vs Silva kick **** out of each over then renzo Gracie vs Carlos newton giving a grappling clinic, its just the way it is

but we no that bjj rules so thats ok|||I%26#039;m afraid it will never get better. There will always be choreographed MA movies. But not because the moves won%26#039;t work in real life but for the safety of the actors/stuntmen. Yes there are a lot of movies that use fake choreographics and even after being in karate for ten years, I would prefer a gun over my hands/feet. But in the times that we are living in, you got to think. %26quot; What if I don%26#039;t have my gun on me when I need to defend myself?%26quot;.

Oh and by the way, I don%26#039;t know about Kill Bill and Kung Fu hustle but I do know that Jet Li is an Awesome martial artist, like Jackie Chan and Stephen Seagal. Their stuff really works. I know, I%26#039;ve studied and practice it.|||Kill Bill and Kung Fu Hustle are SUPPOSED to be ridiculous. Kill Bill is all about paying homage to those crazy MA movies, and Kung Fu Hustle is the same. Plus, they were both comedies. It%26#039;s like saying that Looney Tunes provide a negative stereotype of the use of anvils and dynamite.

Jet Li movies are a different species altogether. He and his choreographers know what people want to see when they watch a MA movie, and they give it to them. It%26#039;s all about business.|||Jet Li did wushu, which more of a dance, not kung fu. Kung fu refers to Chinese Martial arts in general, with some styles being more effective than others. Also, karate and tae kwon do are more like sports true combat arts, but they are just easier to learn for little kids, as opposed to BJJ or Muay Thai. Little kids are also intrigued by watching flashy displays of breaking boards in karate and tae kwon do, even though it doesn%26#039;t have anything to do with fighting ability.|||Real self-defense encounters are ugly things. They are fast, dirty, sloppy, violent encounters.

Movies are made for entertainment. The crowd wants to see the good guy beautifully destroy the bad guy. Then the hero runs into a little bit of trouble and overcomes the adversity to save the situation and win the admiration of the people.

Real life doesn%26#039;t go down like this which is why we enjoy it as escapism.

Also in real life people don%26#039;t go on extended missions where by they fight evil for an hour with nothing but there fisticuffs skills.

Art is art. Real life is another matter.|||It is acctually a matter of public opinion, and as we can all see you are definitly a part of the public.|||i personally think a tire iron is the best and you dont need to waste money on lessons.

Are happy endings an American movie phenomena only?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

Outside of the comedy and kung fu genres, it seems movies especially from Asia are completely devoid of happy endings. My teacher recommended some Asian cinema to me, and mixed with my own personal experiences, I%26#039;ve come to the conclusion that foreign movies, at least ones from China, tend to be depressing.

Beijing Bicycle

(Some movie about a little girl in a rural village)

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

House of Flying Daggers

Hero

Ju Dou

Raise the Red Lantern

Curse of the Golden Flower

The Promise (semi-happy, but still depressing)

Farewell My Concubine

Just to name a few I%26#039;ve watched recently and the more memorable ones from the past. I%26#039;m in Taiwan now, so I%26#039;ve watched many more, and strangely, the are all sad.

Taiwanese movies tend to have more happy endings, but why is it that all the highly publicized Mainland Chinese movies are so damn sad?

I asked this question before and was called a racist. Please. Save that kind of comment for somewhere else.|||You can always find a depressing film (Bicycle theif) as well as a happy film (The Gods Must be Crazy) from any country. This %26quot;depressing%26quot; sensation may be the films that are exported. We only see a sliver of what is actually made|||I have noticed what you are talking about and it does seem that Americans need happy endings. They will tear a movie up critically if they don%26#039;t get a happy ending.|||art imitates life

many years of sorrow|||How about watching some English, European, Indian, Australian, etc. films? The US and China are not the only ones making movies out there.

I%26#039;d hate to have all American films judged on just 9 - 10 offerings from any given year.

Bruce Lee - Please give me some perspective?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

Bruce Lee was known as the bestest man on the planet. Was he? What stories have you heard about his %26quot;off camera%26quot; life that would suggest Bruce Lee wasn%26#039;t just a movie star kung fu guy.

Also, did he invent Num-chucks?|||Bruce Lee was both an actor and a very skilled martial artist. He was actually born in America, but was raised in Hong Kong. Later in his young adult life, he came back to the US and attended college in Seattle and majored in Philosophy. It was during this time he began to build a student base and teach different aspect of Chinese boxing.

He later moved to southern California and was spotted by a talent scout at the Long Beach International Championships and was hired for the part of Kato on the Green Hornet television series. Lee was constantly training, though, and suffered a back injury that left him incapacitated for a time. During this time, he put together a series of notes, drawings, and philosophies which were later combined to create the book %26quot;The Tao of Jeet Kune Do%26quot;, which was a system he developed to be all about application - he was even reluctant to give it a name.

Later, Lee went back to China to star in several movies before landing the lead part in a Warner Bros./Golden Harvest joint effort international project, %26quot;Enter the Dragon%26quot;. Sadly, Lee died shortly before the movie premiered and is buried in Seattle, WA.

Lee did not invent nunchucks. Bruce Lee studied western boxing, Karate, Judo, Hung Gar and taijiquan, as well as others, but his foundation was likely Wing Chun.

I%26#039;ve been to his grave. I met my childhood hero, but about thirty-five years too late.|||No he did not invent the numb chucks they were ariginaly a farming tool ut they need weapons so they used what they had and for off camera bruce lee, he was shooting a movie but a man did not belive it was real(this is while there were on break or somthing) so the man wanted to try him but bruce said that if u stand there i will hit u with only 6 inch%26#039;s of distance between u and my fist so he actually open hes habd and put his finger tips on the guy and and just closed his hand into a fist on his body and sent him 6 feet Thats a story for off camera. no u can belive it or not cus i do But i hope it helps|||I did a little research for my senior thesis (it wasn%26#039;t part of my finished paper, but it was informative) abotu him. Two books I would recommend would be Tao of Jeet Kune Do and The Letters of the Dragon by John Little. The former illustrates Lee as a very, very intelligent man who had an exceptional gift for kinesthetic theory. The latter book was written by a student, as is filled with anecdotes about his philosophies and personal life (apparently he was quite the jokester).|||bruce was an actor but i think he fought a few interesting opponents|||I was in Taiwan when he died. His death was all over the news. He was very popular there. People mourned him.|||read the wikipedia page on him, its got some good general info.

he studied many martial arts, tai chi, kung fu, boxing, fencing, jutjitsu.

he really could and did fight, he wasnt just an actor.|||He was a martial artist first and an actor second. People see only his movies and think that%26#039;s all that hes got in him. But he only chose the big screen as a vehicle to express and expose martial arts since literally once a movie airs, your speaking to maybe crowds of 100 at one time depending on the theater size.

Trust me, had he never become a movie star he%26#039;d still be famous. Perhaps not as much, probably on the same level as Mas Oyama without the %26quot;he was only an actor, I could kick his ****%26quot; BS.|||Bruce Lee was born under both the year and day of the dragon, and as such it was thought he would be a great fighter. He is was immensely strong for a small man (he weighed about 135 pounds) and could beat many larger men in feats of strength. He was gifted genetically I believe.

However, for any natural gifts that he had, Lee quadrupled the effect of his abilities via an unparalleled work ethic. Training for him was often an all day affair. He was challenged by other martial artists for teaching non-chinese students and was called out to fight because of this supposed %26quot;law%26quot;. %26quot;I will fight who I want%26quot; was I believe his exact quote. So they sent their best fighter as a challenge to Lee, to beat some sense into him. Of course, Bruce turned the tables on the challenger and beat him badly, although it turned into a match where Lee mostly had to chase their fighter. Afterwords, Lee admitted he was winded, and vowed never to have that happen again. This is when he began to train cardio massively.

As for sheer brute power, Bruce Lee had devised the %26quot;one inch punch%26quot;. Few had seen it, and even fewer believed in it.

On one occasion a fighter scoffed at how much power could be put into such a punch. Lee asked the man if he could demonstrate, and had the man put on a heavy pad to protect the man%26#039;s chest. The other man was a bit amused as he wondered why he would have to wear such padding, as he was used to karate matches with no padding.

%26quot;Stand right there%26quot; Bruce said, %26quot;Prepare yourself…%26quot; He held his fist 1 inch away from the man%26#039;s chest, and with lightning speed he exploded all his force into the punch, which drove the man backword over 10 feet and into the swimming pool. After fishing him out, they removed the padding of the gasping man, and all could see the large and expanding red welt on his chest I assume it became quite a bruise.

Bruce Lee was great not just because of his ability, but because of the Philosophy in which he believed in. A %26quot;Way of no way%26quot; if you will, where no traditional and solid martial art would be used, but only the best of any system be incorporated.

No, he did not devise Nunchuku, they were actually a devise used in antiquity to harvest rice.|||Bruce Lee with his %26quot;Tao of Jeet kune do%26quot; was one of the most advanced thinker on martial arts ever. He is the true father of MMA and responsible for the proliferation of ancient knowledge.

My ex wife keeps nagging me about things, what would you do?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

My ex and I have shared custody of our beautiful children who I adore. I spend all three of my days per week doing all kinds of fun activities with the children… skating, kung fu, Renaissance Festival, Movies, parks, and spending lots of time at Grandma and Grandpa%26#039;s house :-) The problem is that she always has something to complain about come Sunday when she picks them up. This time it was because one of our children had a accident (poo poo) in her pants while my ex was watching her. She says this is my fault because I am a bad father somehow. What do I do? I%26#039;ve tried to reason with her and ignore her but it just doesn%26#039;t seem to work. If you couldn%26#039;t reason with her when you were married (which is obvious because you%26#039;re now divorced), what chance will you have now that you%26#039;re not married anymore? That%26#039;s what I say to myself when my ex-husband is being a complete idiot. It%26#039;s obvious your ex is very unhappy, and there is nothing you can do to make her happy at this point. Just keep being the good father that you%26#039;re being, and IGNORE her. But, be aware that if she%26#039;s doing this, she could be trying to undermine your relationship with your children. DO NOT let her do that, under any circumstances. Good luck, and be happy.|||well, i would complain also if your kids are all over the places as you described…especially if theyre at ages where they poo their pants!! stick to less exciting activities at home….they will be more memorable in their hearts if you read or play games with them and laugh and encourage them or join in building blocks or sculpting clay etc. ok?|||If disagreeing with her bit***** gets you nowhere, then just agree with her insults, smile, and say %26quot;GOOD BYE!%26quot; - - she will eventually STOP doing this IF you stop reacting to it. The moment you object to her harsh tongue, BAM, you are destin for another bite.|||In a situation as yours there always seems to be one who is still bitter about the breakdown of a realtionship.Wether it%26#039;s guilt or something else I don%26#039;t know..only time will improve your relationship with your ex…Explain to her she should not argue with you in front of the children…She can see you with the kids going out and having fun on your days with them but she has the responsabilty of raising them all week.Try and talk to her, without either of you getting upset over trivial things like poo poos! That is no big deal.. She is hurting I feel.|||Don%26#039;t argue with your Ex that is what she is trying to get you to do. It sounds like she is jealous of your relationship with your children. Do you and she have a cordial relationship? Do you get along if so maybe you could invite her to go along with you and the kids (if nothing more than a time or two). If this is not possible then just don%26#039;t engange in an arguement for the kids%26#039; sake.

Don%26#039;t EVER bad mouth each other or use the kids as pawns. Kids as the ones who ultimately get hurt then they sometimes get negative feeling toward that parent.

If you and your ex can always think of the kids%26#039; needs first before yourselves and any of the problems that made you get divorced in the first place. Your kids will grow up to be loving and understanding individuals.

Good luck|||She%26#039;ll be more critical of you because of her general feelings towards you. You could be doing a great job and she%26#039;ll still find somthing to be mad about. However I would be mad too if you weren%26#039;t watching the kids on your time. I was a step mom to a wonderful little boy and we were very close, but his mother always found somthing to be angry about. Me and him grew sunflowers one summer and he was so proud of them and when his mom came to pick him up he gave her one. As soon as he mention that he and I grew them together she just tossed in the back seat window of the car. He was only 5 at the time and it really hurt his feelings. Only time will tell if she gets over her issues with you. Just enjoy and take care of your kids and don%26#039;t use them against her.Never bad mouth her in front of the kids either. She could be angry that the kids are actually enjoying their time with you. Just ignore her, your kids is all that matters now. Accidents happen.|||You sound like a great dad. Ignore her she seems like a bitter old lady maybe she is jealous of you. Just a thought.|||My heart goes out to you. I have an ex who%26#039;s the same way. Have you considered suing her for full custody of the children? It sounds like she%26#039;s unstable. (All young kids have poo poo or pee pee accidents from time to time, they just get too involved in what they%26#039;re having fun doing to remember to go to the bathroom. That is in no way your fault and it doesn%26#039;t make you a bad dad). Your ex needs a therapist, but I know you can%26#039;t make her go to one. However, I think if you kept a journal of all the weird things she does, you could convince a judge that you should have full time custody of your kids.|||The only time my husband hears from his ex is when:

1) she needs him to pay a bill;

2) she wants to tell him that he is doing something wrong;

3) she lets him know that she will not be abiding by the court order for whatever reason she has decided is valid.

There is nothing that my husband can do or say that is right where she is concerned. I truly think that the problem is that she and he see things entirely differently. He actually follows the rules, she ignores them or makes up her own.

You may not ever be able to have anything other than strained civility. Just keep to the moral high ground. I am really curious about how the child having an accident while in the care of your ex was the fault of your bad parenting; is it because you ended the marriage? That can unfortunately leave lingering feelings of resentment, and if so, you need to give her time to get past it. It doesn%26#039;t happen overnight.

One thing I would do is talk with her while the children are somewhere else and agree to not talk badly about one another to the kids. They are having enough challenges with your divorce, hearing you two talk trash about one another will only make it worse.

In spite of our situation, we always choose the moral high ground, even though it is galling at times. (I mean teeth-knashingly so) It is better for my husband%26#039;s kid, and that is who is important now. If your ex chooses not to see it that way there is nothing that you can do other than keep a written record of her behavior. That way if you need to go to court because this becomes ugly you have documentation.

Try talking to her first and see if you can%26#039;t come to some sort of truce. It%26#039;s okay to complain about things that happen; it%26#039;s another thing entirely to attribute the other person%26#039;s bad parenting for all the challenging things that happen. That doesn%26#039;t solve the problem, and only creates bad feelings.

Good luck - I hope that you are able to work this out.|||Its not you, its her. She is very jealous of your relationship with your children. She see your children happy and they share with her all the things you do with them and she feels as if she is left out. She is just an angry, lonely lady. She wants you to be unhappy, like she is. Just smile and move on and don%26#039;t let it bother you, CZ when she knows it does she will continue her behavior. try validating it. Yeah, I guess it is my fault, I am working on being a better father, thank you for pointing that out. Kiss the children and say good bye her and you could try saying something nice to her, like the children told me you did this or that and how much they loved it. or tell her the children miss her a lot when they are with you or she looks good. reverse the negative to a positive. Smile your doing good and you are not a bad father. Bless you for spending quality time and not just time with your children|||you may not like my answer, but perhaps she is finding it tough, she sees you and the kids doing lots of fun stuff, where as she is mom, cooking cleaning washing ironing etc and has the daily grind and you sweep in like santa claus and then drop them off again, children having %26quot;accidents%26quot; is usually a sign of upset in their little lives too, are your children seeing the conflict, sensing pending upset when they are returned? you are obviously a caring father, do the right thing here, speak, amicably to your ex about the effect this is having and find a resoloution, its in everyones best interest long term, not just the childrens

Movies often filled with racism against Asians?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

So I saw Live Free or Die Hard last night…and while it was fun, I was also appalled at the blatantly racist comments directed against Asians. Even the trailer for Rush Hour 3 was so degrading towards Asians..that whole series is flat out racist. Seriously, Chris Tucker says all these racist comments about Asians that are meant to get laughs…if those same things were said about Black people, the NAACP would be boycotting the movie. In Live Free or Die Hard, one of the bad girls is Asian..and Bruce Willis constantly refers to her as an Asian hooker and, at one point, says he%26#039;s tired of all this %26quot;kung-fu $hit,%26quot; and the whole theater started cracking up. Everyone in the theater started laughing everytime he referred to her being an %26quot;Asian hooker%26quot; or %26quot;Asian chick.%26quot; I%26#039;m so tired of Asians being the object of derisive laughter…it%26#039;s like we allow Black and White people to take advantage of us and say all these terrible things while we just sit by and allow it. Anyone else sick?|||Rush Hour, I%26#039;m not so sure about, because Chris Tucker%26#039;s character really is supposed to be the dopey sidekick to Jackie Chan%26#039;s character, and anything his character says is meant to show how uninformed he actually is.

But I%26#039;m totally with you on Die Hard. I was cringing at all the epithets McClane was throwing at Mai. And he%26#039;s the hero! Are we really supposed to get behind that?

Even Crash, which in all other respects is an excellent movie about race relations in the United States managed to simplify its Asian characters into negative stereotypes.

But the biggest problem is how grossly underrepresented Asians are in mass media.|||I don%26#039;t have a problem with racist characters, but with racist filmmakers. The things you mention are characters that are racists. %26quot;Mississippi Burning%26quot; is full of racists characters (for an obvious example). If you want to see racist filmmaking, take a look at %26quot;Rising Sun%26quot;. You%26#039;ll see images of homeless Americans juxtaposed against rich Japanese corporations; this alludes to the fact that the Japanese caused homelessness in America. Ridiculous!|||There are plenty of racist movies that make fun of other nationalities. Don%26#039;t let it bother you, they are just trying to make people laugh, just like Dave Chappelle|||While I wouldn%26#039;t say movies are %26quot;filled%26quot; with racism against Asians, I do have to admit I was bothered by the %26quot;Asian hooker%26quot; line. If she was black, would he have called her a %26quot;Black druggie%26quot; or something like that?|||No;

I think Bruce Willis uses those expressions because it%26#039;s very often that you see and Asian girl going out with a White guy; and it doesn%26#039;t maybe feel so authentic as a relationship you know. It feels more like the guy is just having fun with the girl; and using his %26quot;whiteness%26quot; seen as superior, or more valuable from the Asian point of view to be able to date the Asian girl.

So, it%26#039;s a bit to denonce this so much recurring habit that Bruce WIllis uses these expressions.

And, face it; in the movie, the Asian girl always does exactly what the WHite guy, (the villain) tells her to do; She is there for him. I thhink this is the point of those remarks. Bruce Willis knows how it works. that%26#039;s all. Now, I dont think making fun of anyone ethnicity is good. In fact, I think it is stupid. We all there in this World with our differences; and that%26#039;s what makes the world interesting, and not boring.

Finally, why is everyone picking up on Blacks in the answers?

I mean, arent we talking about Live Free or DIe Hard here??

In Rush Hour 3, you will see that there might be jokes on Asians, but there are jokes on Black as well. AND THE SCRIPT HASNT BEEN WRITTEN BY CHRIS TUCKER !!

IT HAS BEEN WRITTEN BY A WHITE PERSON.

In Rush Hour 1 or 2, Jackie Chan thrwos bad jokes about Blacks as well..like I will throw you back to Africa.

FInally, Blacks are the most un-racist people you will find on this earth. This is just something Blacks do not do. They might do it as a response. But Blacks are welcoming people. Go anywhere in Africa; they are always nice. this is why they have been enslaved and colonized by the way. they were welcoming everyone; and then; they got trapped. caught.

I am sorry for the Asians that have been saddened by this movie.

But, Asians should feel the need to step up their attitude, and not so much be seen as the servants of Whites. especially Asian girls.

Love to all.

Peace.

If they called me weird because watching all that not common movies, is the director/writer weirder?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

I like all those drama/art movies, which people/friends I know call it absurd, or the ending is not clear.

I%26#039;m not saying that I only like these kind of movies. I like comedy, romance, etc. But the majority of my friends could not understand this. They usually only watch that crazy comedy, action, kung fu. I guess this is the majority of my country.

And so some of my friends would call me weird, %26quot;He likes all that weird movies, which I could not understand.%26quot;

Though I see usually people in the US or Europe, have more people like these kind of movies.|||Many people prefer to exist at the fundamental level, where basic needs and wants are the primary focus of their lives. In fact, many people struggle so much to just stay alive, that they have no time for higher level concepts or abstract thought.

So, I would consider your propensity to enjoy all types of entertainment as a blessing, not a curse.

You have been able to reach a level of consciousness that allows you time to contemplate the ambiguities and abstractness of our existence.

Some of your friends are still languishing at the primal level. They don%26#039;t know what they are missing.|||The other answer was so eloquently put,

the only thing I might add, is watch whatever movies make you happy.

You see and feel more from the drama than a Kung-Fu or

silliness, good for you.

You are using your mind.

Do what pleases you the most!…I used to love Alfred Hitchcock movies.|||My friends are the same way. But i do it purposely though because i hate hate hate watching the same popular movies as they do. At least I know that when im watching an independent film or any or movie that has actual meaning, like you have to watch over to understand, or those artsy movies with such beautiful shots, that no one else is watching it but me.

What is the best martial art for movies?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

Kickboxing like Van Dame?

Taekwondo because of it%26#039;s super Jhoon Rhee high kicks?

Jeet Kun Do?

Wushu and Southern Kung Fu styles?

Shotokan or Taichi like Roper from Enter the Dragon did?

Maybe even Kenjitsu (or Kendo) like used in all the Great Samurai movies…

I%26#039;m quite sure it%26#039;s not Okinawan Karate…And the Jujitsu I%26#039;ve seen in movie comes off as pretty uncinematic….|||Either Capoeria, the performance type of Wushu, XMA, or Tae Kwon Do (with as many of the fancy kicks as possible).

XMA, also features much of what Wushu has, and is associated with many TKD dojangs, so it also features the fancy kicks and flips and all of that. Making it an excellent choice for movies.

Capoeria, with the dancing and all, is another good looking martial art for movies.

Wushu, also looks good and has weapon forms for a movie featuring fight scenes with weapons.

Of course Tae Kwon Do has the fancy kicks and all, but personally I think XMA and Capoeria are the best for movies and such.|||Despite being well suited for movies, XMA and Capoeria are both under used in movies and other performances requiring such martial arts. It%26#039;s almost a shame. Report It
|||Wushu and kung fu-it%26#039;s more spectacular than the others.People like to see impossible jumps and amazing scenes where people almost fly and things like that!

Kickboxing is also very nice but they only fight, they haven%26#039;t got those amazing jumps and it%26#039;s more violent I think!|||Well, I really enjoyed %26#039;Kill Bill%26#039; and the %26#039;Last Samurai%26#039;.

Sword arts are a pleasant change from the usual genre, eh?

They also require skill to make them look professional.

I appreciate the spirituality of iaido.|||i have seen hundreds of movie and the top was

Bruce LEe jeet jun do fist of fury

Jet li fist of fury

Jackie chan rush hour shang hai noons

using Northern chines kungfu and sourthern chinese KungFU

Jet li Once upon in china Kung fu

Iron monkey Donnie Yen Shaolin

The evil cult Jet li was good I think it was taichi shaolin and wushu combine

Drunken master 8 drunken fist or drunkin mantis

Ong Bak the Muay Thai warrior Tony jaa

The protecter Tony jaa muay thai and capoerira

And mor to come|||in my opinion modern wushu(Taolu) what jet li does. some forms of kung fu such as monkey kung fu, drunken boxing. taekwondo has pretty cool kicks, capoeira is also a graceful art. now alot of people are getting into tricking (xma)which is great on camera it combines martial arts with gymnastics.

of course this is entertainment purposes only cuz what looks good in the movies doesnt work in real life

edit: jasin is wrong about van damme he did do martial arts shotokan karate to be exact though im not saying in anyway van damme is a good actor or fighter im just saying he did do some sort of martial arts.|||I would have to say the CHINESE styles, they use alot of fancy, well balanced, moves that look incredible on film.

Jackie Chan said himself they usually speed up the films to male it look faster except for in the case of him and Jet Li, the went so fast they used Slo Mo so you could even see their tecniques.

Its Philip Rhee also, he is in several styles, not just TKD which also has alot of flashy kicks but not so many flashy hand moves.

I thought Jeff Speaman did a good job at representing Kenpo in the Perfect Weapon.|||pick me pick me pick me kung fuuuuuuuu nothing else it%26#039;s soo beautiful|||tae kwan do, chinese long fist styles and boxing seem to look the best that could just be me|||wushu.. its what all the modern martial arts movie people do, as seen in %26quot;the matrix%26quot; %26quot;crouching tiger, hidden dragon,%26quot; jet li films etc. Its the most difficult martial art on the planet, and will get you in shape fast… higher kicks than TKD, faster than Jeet Kun Do, and more effective than karate…|||Kungfu is the best if you want to go into acting. Van Dame was not trained in the Martial arts he was trained in gymnastics. Wushu is a gungfu its just not traditional shaolin kungfu.|||Hong Kong cinema kung fu - all those high flying kung fu moves that are impossible in real life,

Anyone ever heard of someone saying they had to "register their hands?"?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

LOL I love to talk to people who say that they have had their hands %26quot;registered with the local police%26quot; and that if they hit someone, its assault with a deadly weapon! Anyway, I asked my uncle who is a detective for the Sherrif%26#039;s office near me and he laughed. I knew it wasn%26#039;t true but I still wanted to check. He said it probably came from the 80%26#039;s when all the Kung Fu movies came out, and now there are kung fu idiots running around everywhere that say they can knock you out without touching you LOL.|||it is totally fabricated. everyone has the right to defend themselves, whether trained or not. the way the innocent become the bad guy as well is when the attack has been stopped (by the initial offensive attack) and the person who was the victim keeps going to town on the guy. it went from self defense to assault, just like that. sux, and seen many a nice guy go to jail. the idea is to get in fast and hard, and leave them out cold or incapacitated as soon as you can.

resist the urge to chase them down.

if anything, we all drive cars, and those hands at the wheel are far more dangerous, and we dont register them do we. who%26#039;s the armchair net warrior who keeps downing everyone with solid and reliable answers? wow, get a life|||We all drive cars, and those hands at the wheel are far more dangerous, and we don%26#039;t register them do we?

Excuse me? We are required to have a driver%26#039;s license! That is registration. Report It
|||Yea, I%26#039;ve heard that, heck I%26#039;ve been told that and laughed too.

Some of the trained fighters, armed forces can get into trouble if you use excessive force as judged by your state… but you don%26#039;t register. I guess I should be more clear, you do not register in the United States.

Wording is also important… was it a vicious punch or a controlled opened hand strike to slow the attacker down and give me a chance to….

I was asked that after you disarm a person can you shoot them with the gun. Wow.

Hey, would you have to register your elbow or foot if you art focused on those? What about if it was a grappling style? :)|||I%26#039;ve heard it many times. So ridiculous. I%26#039;d like one of them to show up at the police department and say %26quot;yea uh… I%26#039;d like to register my hands as deadly weapons please%26quot; and watch them get laughed at.|||i had a guy threaten me with a bat , and when I defended myself he told me I was in trouble. haha , he even asked if I had registered myself yet , because if not , I was in trouble for that.

I think he believed that if I was a black belt he was allowed to come after me with a bat , and I was compelled to take the whooping.

the other myth , at least here (let me know if you have heard this one) is that I have to announce loudly (three times) that I am a black belt before I am allowed to defend myself. Also not true.|||Not true. In America, this practice has never been necessary. The rumors may have started with non martial art practitioners or because Professional Boxers must register their hands.

At one time in Japan, experts had to register their hand with local Police. Rumors also went around that U.S. Marines who studied martial arts in Okinawa had to register their hands.

I have been told the same B.S. story many time from people I have meet over the years. They tell me a friend or relative need to register their hands (and or feet in some cases) with local Police. I like to here there story then tell them there are FULL of CRAP! Then I tell them I have been into the martial arts for X-amount of years and who do you think you are talking too..some dummies? Then I tell them I have trained L/E and I am also have relatives who work in L/E.

So I hope this helps you out because it is not true what so ever.|||I%26#039;ve heard that more times than I can count. I usually respond by pointing out that if my hands were deadly weapons, I would not be allowed in an airport. That rumor was circulating long before the Kung Fu movies, I don%26#039;t know how or when it started. Always good for a chuckle when someone asks me this question.|||The island of Guam (US Territory) does indeed have such a very old stupid law that nobody takes seriously (Nobody ever registers)!

__________|||I like when they say when they hit you it won%26#039;t hurt at first but in two weeks your internal organs will start bleeding inside. I always get a laugh from that.|||You have got to be kidding me…. Once a guy decided to pick a fight with me after I told him he was a loudmouth and to shut his pie hole because he said pretty much the same thing. (Yeah , I know, not my best moment). He yelled %26quot;I%26#039;m special forces%26quot;, and threw a WEAKASS roundhouse kick to my side, that a small child could have blocked because it was so slow, and lacked ANY power. I started laughing my butt off because it was so funny, and he decided to try punching me instead. He used these ridiculous %26quot;punches%26quot; and I just kept blocking them and laughing, and eventually he backed off, and I kid you not, said %26quot;Had enough yet%26quot;? I was almost in tears because he was SERIOUS!!! Everybody watching this was laughing at him. He got mad and lunged at me, and I threw a simple, bargain basement front kick right to his gut, he dropped, gasping for air, and I went back inside and had a beer. Schmoes like that abound. I had a buddy who took some lame TV show martial art and got his butt kicked in a hurry. It was called Dux Ninjutsu. What a joke. I told him he was making a huge mistake, and he finally found out when somebody clocked him and he couldnt do a single thing to stop him. He had the %26quot;black belt%26quot; instructors showing him techniques that were at best dangerous, but only to the guy that tried to use the idiotic methods. Day 1 lesson. Was it how to stand, keep your balance, maybe move? No, it was some complicated sweep throw that didn%26#039;t even work right. Add into it that these supposed %26quot;black belts%26quot; would HIT you if they felt your form was off, and I knew he was in for a lot of money for no benefit. I took my free %26quot;lesson%26quot; he invited me to, and when the %26quot;instructor%26quot; hit me for something or other, I swept his foot, kicked him in the crotch and walked out. Lots of these %26quot;I%26#039;m a registered weapon%26quot; morons come from the same school of thought. If your that good, you don%26#039;t need to advertise, because your HEAD and MIND are what are dangerous. You learn to use them to avoid the fight in the first place. These guys are just looking to impress the easily impressionable.|||In theroy your hands can be deadly if you know what your doing. the special ops. fighter has to be able to kill some one with one hit and do it in silence|||yes, i think we%26#039;ve all heard the stories and yeah the BS meter tends to register a 10+++

as for the laws in new mexico, there is no registering your hands with the police, but if you take a self defense situation too far you can be cited for accessive force..

in other words if you%26#039;re attacked and kick to the groin and a palm heel to the nose is enough to get your attacker to back off and instead of retreating, you decide to use him as a kicking target, you will get cited for accessive force..

the only guy i remember having to register anything was a pro boxer and he registered with the national boxing association.. NOT the police…….. c%26#039;mon people.. really..

~*smilez*~|||I have a friend that is a U.S NAVY SEAL and i would say he should register his hands, he is also a blackbelt in judo.Basically a trained killer.|||Thats kinda funny. I knew tis girl once who I was kinda into until she tiold me he had taken King Fu and had to register her hands. She said she had to be careful about how she touched her kids as well because she sould be locked up because she was so dangerous. But what was even worse was she was married at one time and got a divorce because the guy beat the heck out of her and he didn%26#039;t know any Martial art. I asked her why she didn%26#039;t use her Kung Fu and she said if she would have touched him she would have went to jail because she is so dangerous. I can%26#039;t believe people beleive this. it would be impossible to track down ever single black belt in the world and arrest them if they didn%26#039;t register|||The best story I heard was from a pigion toed thumbless guy named Bud. This dude was classic, coke bottle glasses, sweatpants everyday and a first growth mustache. There is no way anyone could take him seriously. He was captain of the butt****s. I think he has hard times fighting colds let alone a full grown man.|||I cannot believe that people don%26#039;t know where that came from!

It is a famous line from The Andy Griffith Show. Barney Fife said it while making karate type moves with his hands.|||yeah some of them need to register thier hands with the wmaws?

commonly known as the world masturbating and wankers society.|||LMAO!!!!!!!! I LOVE SuperSolid%26#039;s post! That stuff made me laugh so hard that my whole body is sore.

It feel so good to see those stupid martial artists get their *** kick hard.|||Yes, actually.

When my father was in Thailand during the VietNam War, he earned his black belt in Song Mu Kwan Tae kwon Do.

He and the other black belts then had to go to the local Thai police station and get their pictures taken, and issued an ID card stating that they were martial artists/black belts/(?).

I came across the Thai police-issued ID card with his picture on it once while helping him to clear out some obsolete documents.|||I know a kid that boxes…. he did not have to %26quot;register his hands%26quot;, but if he hits someone he can be sent to jail because they are considered deadly because he knows how to fight and has the capability of hitting lethally.. but he has also been in A lot of fights, so that could have to do with it….|||You CAN register your hands as a deadly weapon if you have the credentials for such a title. No black-belt is obligated by any law however to register their hands. You can if you want to, but most people who do are asshats who want to show off/have the registration to show off. It%26#039;s a huge ego thing. Like I said, in summary, you don%26#039;t have to register your hands…. but if you want to look %26#039;impressive%26#039; you can.

What the best kung Fu flick?

Posted by admin  Published in Kung Fu movies

I like the kid with the golden arm and Berry Gordy%26#039;s Last dragon. If you think Berry Gordy%26#039;s last dragon is not a good choice take another look. It had a lot of real martical arts scenes and it was funny too! Not to mention it%26#039;s an eighties flick and the eighties had some good movies.|||Here are my top Few:

I) By far the very best: %26quot;The 36th Chamber of Shaolin%26quot; also known as %26quot;Master Killer%26quot; staring Gordon Liu.

II) The One (Okay, this is a sci-fi flick with Jet Li, but it shows Baguazhang and Xingyiquan Gung-fu fights. It%26#039;s cool)

III) Enter the Dragon

IV) Hero

Now if you just want an all round good martial arts film, try %26quot;Best of the Best.%26quot; I know it Tea Kwon Do, but some of the fight scenes are phenomenal and the spirit of the martial arts is well depicted. The sequel, Best of the Best 2 has some pretty amazing fight scenes as well, but where I would ay the first is more of a sports drama, the second film is without a doubt a martial arts film.

I hope this helps.|||I liked Kung Fu Hustle.|||mortal kombat|||???????|||I like the Flying Guillotine series. Also, Kung pao, a spoof, but the funniest spoof ever of kun fu movies.|||Kung Fu Hustle was awesome|||Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle. House of Flying Daggers was good, but sad. I haven%26#039;t watched a whole lot of the older ones, except for the show Kung Fu.|||I liked The Last Dragon. But my favorite is Enter the Dragon with Bruce Lee|||I like Jackie Chan because he does all of his own stunts.

I like Steven Segal movies because he has a calm about him. He doesn%26#039;t show his emotion so you never know what he will do next.|||Umm the only kung fu flick that comes to my mind is Kung Pow: Enter The Fists with Steve Oderick|||i still liek teh game of death, or at least i think thats what it was called, it was teh one that Bruce lee never finished because he died while they were still filming, the parts that were filmed were relased, such as bruce lee vs. krameem abdul jabar.|||The Seven Samurai.|||%26quot;Fist of Legends%26quot;

%26quot;Twin Warriors%26quot;

%26quot;Transporter%26quot;

%26quot;The One%26quot;

%26quot;Only the Strong%26quot;

%26quot;Kiss of the Dragon%26quot;|||Unleashed,Rush Hour 2|||%26quot;The Kentucky Fried Movie%26quot;. The segment called %26quot;A Fistful of Yen%26quot; is hysterical. If you don%26#039;t want to sit through a sketch comedy film to watch that segment, then the best full-length kung fu movie is %26quot;Kung Fu Hustle%26quot;.|||Bruce Lee%26#039;s Game of Death
